Perennial Forage Producers, Including Native and Tame Grass

Producers with perennial forage crops, inc may want to ask your local FSA office about continuous certification. If eligible, certified acreage can roll forward from year to year until a change is made.

 

Make an Appointment with FSA

USDA encourages producers to contact their local FSA office after planting is complete and schedule an appointment to report acreage and take care of other FSA business.

Information Needed for an Acreage Report

When filing an acreage report, producers may be asked to provide:

  • Crop and crop type or variety
  • Intended crop use
  • Number of acres
  • Map with approximate field boundaries
  • Planting dates
  • Planting patterns, when applicable
  • Producer shares
  • Irrigation practices
  • Prevented planting acreage, when applicable
  • Other required information


Special Reporting Situations

  • If Planting Is Not Complete by the Deadline
    If a crop has not been planted by the applicable acreage reporting deadline, acreage must be reported within 15 calendar days after planting is completed.
  • Perennial Forage Producers
    Producers with perennial forage crops may want to ask your local FSA office about continuous certification. If eligible, certified acreage can roll forward from year to year until a change is made.
     
  • If Additional Ground Is Acquired
    If land is purchased or leased after the acreage reporting deadline, the acreage must generally be reported within 30 calendar days. Supporting documentation may be required.
     
  • NAP Participants
    Producers participating in the Noninsured Crop Disaster Assistance Program (NAP) should remember that acreage reporting deadlines for NAP-covered crops may be earlier. In many cases, the deadline is the acreage reporting date or 15 calendar days before grazing or harvest begins, whichever comes first.

USDA's Farmers.gov portal allows producers to:

  • View farm records
  • Access maps and common land units
  • Print and label maps
  • Export field boundaries
  • Import and view shapefiles and precision agriculture boundaries

A Login.gov account linked to a USDA customer record is required to access these services.
 

Geospatial Acreage Reporting

Some acreage reports can be submitted electronically using precision agriculture planting boundaries through approved insurance providers or authorized third-party providers. Producers using this option should notify their local FSA office if they want those boundaries used as part of their FSA acreage report.
