Key Things to Know To Nominate Yourself or Another

Highlights

August 3 Deadline

All nomination forms for the 2026 election must be submitted to your local USDA Service Center by August 3, 2026.

Why County Committees Matter

FSA County Committees help make decisions about how federal farm programs are administered at the local level. Committee members help guide the delivery of programs related to:

  • Disaster assistance
  • Conservation programs
  • Commodity programs
  • Price support programs
  • Other local agricultural issues

Who Can Be Nominated?

A producer may be eligible if they:

  • Participate in or cooperate with a USDA program.
  • Reside in a Local Administrative Area (LAA) that is up for election this year.

A cooperating producer may qualify even if they have never received USDA program benefits, as long as they have provided information about their farming or ranching operation to FSA.

You Can Nominate Yourself

Individuals may nominate themselves or nominate another eligible producer. Certain organizations may also submit nominations.

Three-Year Terms

County committees are made up of three to eleven members who serve three-year terms. More than 7,700 agricultural producers currently serve on FSA County Committees nationwide.

More Details

What Is a Local Administrative Area (LAA)?

FSA County Committee elections are held within Local Administrative Areas, often called LAAs. An LAA may include a single county, multiple counties, or in some cases an urban or suburban area. Not every LAA holds an election every year. Producers should contact their local FSA office to determine whether their area is up for election in 2026.

How to Become a Candidate

To be considered for the ballot, a producer must complete and sign an FSA-669A Nomination Form and submit it to their local USDA Service Center by the August 3 deadline.

What Happens Next?

After nominations close:

  • USDA will review eligible nominations.
  • Election ballots will be mailed to eligible voters in November 2026.
