TLA Ranch tour at the Blender Ranch, Chase County

TLA Friends:  Just a quick reminder of the Tallgrass Legacy Alliance ranch tour Thursday, September 21 on the Blender Ranch owned and managed by Tom and Corrine Patterson in Chase County. 
    We will gather between 11:00 and 11:30 a.m. at the Saffordville Community Center (formerly Saffordville school) on ZZ Road south of US Hwy 50. A catered BBQ bRSVP: tallgrasslegacy@gmail.comeef and pulled pork lunch sponsored by Frontier Farm Credit will be served beginning at 11:30 a.m.

    Tom and Corrine will present the Lunch & Learn at noon. They have been involved in a number of conservation programs to improve the grassland management and grazing on the ranch. They have a great story to tell.  From there we will carpool about 5 miles north to the ranch. 

   Some of the topics for the day include:

• Utilization of eastern gamagrass in the grazing program
• Rotation grazing to improve grassland condition
• Invasive tree removal through the Great Plains Grassland Initiative (GPGI). The new planning and design booklet will be available.
• Maintaining tree-free grasslands after GPGI.
• Timber stand improvement (TSI) & extended grazing
