Downey Ranch Tour

We will gather at 11:30 a.m. at the headquarters Sale Barn across Wabaunsee Road southeast of the town of Wabaunsee. We will have a catered lunch at noon followed by the Lunch & Learn presentation. Barb & Joe will talk about the history of the ranch, their cattle and land management plan, the bull development program and cattle marketing, and other topics. We will then go on a car pool (and maybe hay trailer) tour of various sites.                 

Some of the topics they would like to share are: their successful and highly cost effective “bale grazing” program where they leave the bales in the field and regulate cattle access via an electric fence; we will look at controlled access drinking points in the pasture ponds; discuss and view their bull development program; how they have successfully used the WRAPS (Watershed Restoration and Protection Strategy) program to make improvements; and generating income from recreation. As always happens, other topics will come up during the Q & A sessions. It will be a lot of fun!!

Another reminder and agenda will be coming as we get closer, but for now put this event on your calendar and plan to join us. Oh, bring your lawn chair too. If the weather is nice we may meet under the big mulberry tree near the Sale Barn.
